I find it difficult to journal everything when I try to live more mindfully, oh the struggle of wanting to be present but at the same time I can’t help my mind as it drifts into the future and starts overthinking about my life! Anyways, here’s my recent favourites as I try to list down the things that made me stay sane as life hangs me upside down and hugs me on some days.

beware: there are some spoilers ahead!!!

READ

I set up a reading goal of 52 books for this year, and I’m way WAYY behind that goal. I blame my short attention span for not being able to finish a book, like I used to before. Nonetheless, Here are some books that I enjoyed, and currently reading.

Warcross by Marie Liu - 10/10

I’ve been putting it off for a year to read this one, an online friend recommended this to me and I finally read it on a random day on my way to work and fell deep in the book. My imagination got wild so I couldn’t put it down. I enjoy this kind of plot, and I will never shut up about it!!! Especially for someone like who’s into technology, it’s also kind of similar to SAO where you use Virtual Reality. I love world building and how everything was written out by the writer. The characters were lovable yet the male character was a bit sus. I was able to finish this one in a day!! Can you believe that? Because I can’t!!! Emika is the best girl and Hideo Tanaka is so hot while being so damn intelligent.

Wildcard by Marie Liu - 7/10

The first book was amazing but the second book felt a bit short for me. The events in the sequel were crazy and a bit all over the place, and it made me question my judgement, however, I still enjoyed this one. One thing that I realised was that I think Emika was not given enough of a chance to prove herself on her own, oh the power that girl has and the power she has on Hideo. The squad also deserves a shoutout for being a good friend to Emika. The last few pages of the book definitely are my favourite.

Sharing my favourite lines in the book.

“Every problem has a solution. But after every solution, there’s a new problem to tackle, some new challenge to take on. You don’t stop after you solve one thing. You keep going, you find a new way and a new path, try to do better and create better. Tearing something down isn’t the end; doing something great, or better, something right, is. Or maybe there isn’t such a thing as an end goal at all. You accomplish something, and then you shift, ready to accomplish the next. You keep solving one problem after another until you change the world.”

The Power of Now - currently reading

As someone who struggles to live in the present, this book is a big help, I’m still currently reading it and have a long way to go. I’ve seen this in one of Rowena Tsai’s Vlogs, and with the current situation we are in, it’s difficult not to think about the future more often. I journal when I can to at least clear my mind and to remind myself to be grateful of the simple things.

WATCH

Bridgerton (DNF)

I tried watching this show since I’ve been seeing all the hype on my timeline about the second season, I didn’t watched the first season at first, I don’t know exactly the reason why It didn’t interest me even though I enjoyed reading historical romance genre. I started watching this one buuuuuut I did not finished it, I was halfway through the season and got bored.

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness - 9/10

My sister and I watched Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness last week, and I didn’t anticipate the long line of movie goers, I was stunned that the cinema gave out some free popcorn and a bottle of water! Lol! It has been a long time since we went out, so it feels great to spend some time with her outside of our home. Ah yes, the movie was astounding, although I didn’t expect the mix of thriller in it, oh don’t get me started with the Jump scares! Wanda coming out of the Gong like she was a freaking sadako was really something else. I would rate it a 9/10 because it lacks something but i can’t exactly pinpoint what, I think there is not much action, and when Wanda stopped Wanda it felt rushed.

Marvel Movies Marathon

After watching Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of madness I decided to binge watch Iron Man from the first movie down to the third one, no doubt it’s one of my favourite movies out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s also Iron Man who opened the doors for more MCU movies that we have come to love now. I guess re watching Iron Man made me remember the emotions that I felt when I first watched it years ago. In awe of how intelligent, and amazing Tony Stark is. He is incredible! He really is the heart of MCU.

Next up I watched Captain Marvel, then Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Thor: Ragnarok (i think this one is on my top list, I enjoyed this movie so much, the comedic scenes were on point, the visuals and the soundtrack is chef’s kiss). As you can see, I was trying to watch everything in chronological order based on the timeline of the events to better understand and connect everything that happened, and it always blows my mind.

Of course I had to watch The Avengers so I skipped a few movies there, Lol! Fast forward to The Avengers: Infinity War and The heartbreaking, legendary The Avengers: Endgame, even though I watched this film so many times, I always pretend like it’s my first time watching it, acting so surprised and crying at the end, it really hits differently when you re-watch movies at different points in your life, it changes something in you.

LIFE

I rarely go out of the house unless my friends ask me to, or if it's for work. Since one of my friends is here in the city until further notice, together with a few of our friends we would grab dinner outside and spend the rest of the evening drowning ourselves with desserts while we exchange stories with one another.

Spending more time at home, catching up on sleep during my off days, I try to balance my work and life but I guess that’s clearly impossible, who am I kidding? I don’t know how long I will be able to keep up with this kind of Work schedule. I’m just happy to be able to spend some time at home.

The recent elections in our country have been heartbreaking and depressing. This must’ve been the longest week so far. I have never cried that hard lately. The results were something I kind of expected but was still hopeful that someone with a heart and genuine intention to serve the country will win. I’m still in denial and I refused to believe that I'm going to live my late twenties and early thirties under this kind of administration.

One thing that I will not regret though, that I voted with the intention of good governance not only for me, but for my siblings and the future generation.
